Rates & Access

Cost should not be the reason you grieve alone

Specialized grief care is not cheap to provide, and we won't pretend otherwise. But there are several ways to lower what you pay — and we would rather talk about money openly than have you quietly decide not to come.

Option one

Our lowest session rates

Graduate interns and associate therapists offer the same grief-affirming approach at a lower rate, with licensed clinical supervision behind every session.

Associate Therapists

LMSW, LAC, LAMFT

$125 per 55-minute session

$175 initial 60-minute intake

Fully licensed associates working under clinical supervision.

Graduate Interns

Master's-level students in counseling, social work, or marriage & family therapy

$50 per 55-minute session

$75 initial 60-minute intake

Our most affordable option, supervised by our licensed clinical staff.

More ways to lower the cost

Insurance, superbills & Open Path

Option two

Use your insurance

Depending on your provider, we may be able to bill directly. Currently accepted:

  • Aetna
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Cigna
  • United Healthcare
  • Open Path
  • Sana

Not all providers accept every plan. We can also provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement.

Option three

Out-of-network superbill

If we can't bill your plan directly, we can provide a superbill — an itemized receipt you submit to your insurer for reimbursement under your out-of-network benefits.

Call the member services number on your insurance card and ask what your out-of-network outpatient mental health benefit is, and whether your deductible has been met.

Option four

Open Path Collective

Open Path is a nonprofit network that connects people with affordable therapy. Members pay a one-time lifetime membership fee and then access reduced-rate sessions.

Also worth knowing

Payments can be made with cash, check, credit card, health savings account. Health Savings Account and Flexible Spending Account funds generally cover therapy, which effectively discounts sessions by your marginal tax rate.

Questions

Cost & insurance

Do you accept insurance?

Center for Compassion is a private-pay group therapy practice. Depending on which provider you see, we may be able to bill your insurance. Our providers currently accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, Open Path, and Sana. Not all providers accept every plan. While we do not accept all insurance, we can provide you with a superbill for submission to your insurance to reimburse your costs under out-of-network benefits.

How much do sessions cost?

Fees depend on the provider you see. Terri Waibel, LCSW: $275 intake, $225 per session. Independently licensed therapists (LCSW, LPC, LMFT): $225 intake, $175 per session. Associate therapists (LMSW, LAC, LAMFT): $175 intake, $125 per session. Graduate interns: $75 intake, $50 per session. Sessions are 55 minutes; intakes are 60 minutes.

What payment methods do you accept?

Payments can be made with cash, check, credit card, or your Health Savings Account (HSA).

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you are uninsured or not using insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your care will cost. Under the No Surprises Act, health care providers must give patients who don't have insurance, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You should receive it in writing at least one business day before your service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute it. For more information, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.

Are there low-cost options?

Yes. Our graduate interns provide services at $75 for the initial intake and $50 for each additional session, and our associate therapists offer $175 intakes and $125 sessions. We also participate with Open Path, a nonprofit network that connects clients with affordable therapy. See our Low Cost Options page for details.

Money is a real barrier

Tell us what you can manage.

If none of these options get you there, say so when you reach out. We would rather have the conversation than assume you've found care elsewhere.
